Choosing a colour scheme for a Queenslander home can be particularly enjoyable, as you can get attractive results by pairing the colour of the weatherboards with a complementary tone over the decorative elements of the building. Using whites on the weatherboards is a modern choice and can be kept neat with a similar shade to the trimmings, or individualised by pairing with a bolder colour such as a grey, maroon, or an olive green. Some of the most charming finishes can in fact be achieved by looking outside the box. A pale blue base, for example, looks striking with white trimming, especially when the home has a large volume of decorative elements such as ballustrades, handrails, and window awnings.

Always consider who you are painting the property for. Is it for universal appeal, for a pending sale, or to create your own sanctuary? Also consider the proximity to other properties and whether you want to maintain consistency with the style of other homes in the area.
